98 riders from across the wealth and asset management community came together for the 5th annual TAM Charity Ride, cycling 350km from Brussels to Paris over three days and raising more than £130,000 for three incredible children’s charities: Action Medical Research, Ruth Strauss Foundation, and Winston’s Wish.

Organised by TAM Asset Management (TAM), part of the Amber River Group, the event has become a hallmark of community, endurance, and purpose within the industry.

James Penny, TAM Chief Investment Officer and Chief Rider, reflected on the success of the event:

“This year’s TAM Charity Ride was a fantastic success. In part because 98 riders safely completed the 350km from Brussels to Paris, but more because the event united so many in our industry to raise funds for children who have had a less fortunate start in life — something we simply don’t do enough.

From start to finish, the ride was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and thousands of espressos! These events are a privilege to organise, and we’re incredibly proud to support three life-changing charities.”

This year’s charities are all dedicated to improving and saving children’s lives:

  • Action Medical Research funds vital research to prevent and treat disease and disability in babies and children. Founded in 1952, the charity has supported breakthroughs such as the first polio vaccine in the UK.
  • Ruth Strauss Foundation provides emotional and practical support to families facing the loss of a parent due to an incurable cancer, and funds research into non-smoking-related lung cancers.
  • Winston’s Wish offers support for children and young people who are grieving the loss of a loved one, helping them navigate one of the most difficult moments in life.

Sarah Stevenson, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Action Medical Research, joined the riders for part of the journey, commenting:

“Action Medical Research for Children was so very proud to be part of this incredible TAM Asset Management Charity Ride. The whole event was superbly organised and the camaraderie between the riders on the event was extraordinary. The fundraising target was smashed while we were on the trip and we are so very grateful for the efforts made by the riders to raise all these funds for us and the other two good causes. This fundraising will have a direct impact on the babies and children and their families who we help through our pioneering and life-changing research. Thank you to all concerned.”

Amber River was proud to have 10 riders take part from across the group — some of whom were tackling the challenge for the first time:

“What started out as a daunting challenge was made so much easier through the team camaraderie, constant cheering on from the support teams, and of course, knowing it was all for three fantastic charities.”

— Sophie, Amber River Central Team

“I’m not a cyclist, so signing up was a shock to my family — and to my thighs! But the support from the team was phenomenal. I’ve been left with a huge sense of pride, and I know the funds we raised will make a real difference.”

— Sam, Amber River Premier

“The camaraderie, friendliness, and support of the other riders really helped the miles fly by. It was a fantastic experience made even more special by the causes we were supporting.”

— Chris T, Amber River Central Team
