True Bearing was established in 2003 by its founder, George Critchley. In 2021, True Bearing became a regional partner of the national Amber River Group. The same team with the same leadership providing tailored financial planning solutions.
George Critchley, from a farming community with strong roots in Lancashire, started True Bearing from its original Chorley office. George, along with his original founding team, had a passion to become the premier IFA in the North West.
True Bearing has been a value-driven business, committed to integrity, trust, hard work, and a can-do attitude. With just half a dozen original members who all shared the same values (and some of whom are still here today 22 years later), the business started to grow.
In 2010, True Bearing was honoured to receive Chartered status from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), an exclusive title awarded to a select group of IFA firms. True Bearing has also been awarded the Investors in People Gold Award several times over. Numerous local business awards followed, including the BIBAs and the Red Rose Awards. Nationally, the firm has been listed many times in the “Best Firms to Work For” category within financial services.
The firm sees life simply: its clients, its team and its community.
Today, the firm proudly serves over 5,000 clients from all walks of life.
From day one, with no clients, a rented office, four desks, computers, and six staff, to today, with three offices and 90 staff. Chorley remains the location for the main office, with recent additions in Altrincham and Stoke-on-Trent.
Growth is continuous, and plans to 2030 are already in place. There is a passion in their people, especially in development. The mantra is “come as you are, but don’t stay as you are”
Giving back to the community is in the firm’s DNA. Marketing Manager Jayne Raven states, “We have raised many thousands of pounds in support of local charities. Derian House Children’s Hospice, Living Waters food bank, and St Catherine’s Hospice are just some of the local beneficiaries. For five years, the firm was the organiser and sponsor of Last Choir Singing. A competition for key stage two junior children across all Lancashire Schools.
